School Direct (Tuition Fee)
School Direct (Tuition Fee) is a 原理图ool-led, one-year initial teacher training programme that equips our trainees with a wealth of classroom experience, a full Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE/PGCert), and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), subject to successful completion of the written assignments and passing the 评估 of Teachers Standards (ATS).
This route is also referred to as the Non-Salaried or PGCE route. This programme is run by our experienced team of educators, whilst also benefiting from the academic rigour and expertise of the staff at our partner university (密德萨斯大学).
You will work closely with an experienced mentor and will undertake 原理图ool placements in contrasting settings. Whilst you are a part of the team from day one, you are not expected to teach classes independently until you and your 原理图ool feel you are ready.
School Direct (Salaried)
The School Direct (Salaried) route means that you are employed for the maximum of a year by one of our partnership 原理图ools. You are paid at least point 1 of the unqualified teacher pay spine.You do not have to pay any fees for your training as your employing 原理图ool pays these on your behalf.
This route is designed for candidates who have had some experience in the workplace (i.e. if you have been working full-time or part-time in paid employment).
At the end of your training year, you will gain a full Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCert) and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), subject to successful completion of the written assignments and passing the 评估 of Teachers Standards (ATS).
Although there is no guarantee of employment upon successful completion of the training year, we have an excellent record of trainees gaining employment at their host 原理图ools or at another local 原理图ool within the Alliance.

Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship
The Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship begins with an intensive, centrally delivered introduction at the start of June. The induction in Term 1 covers core aspects of the 原理图ool curriculum:
- features of effective learning and teaching;
- how pupils learn and how teachers facilitate learning;
- planning effective learning for all learners, including those with special needs (SEND);
- English as an additional language (EAL);
- and planning differentiated learning that meets all young learners’ needs.
在这段时间, there will be a focus on developing the apprenticeship group, sharing and disseminating practice together, collaboration and teamwork in learning, 规划和教学. Apprentices will undertake audits of skills, experience and knowledge in relation to the programme requirements and the Teachers’ Standards. These will be used to build a personalised learning plan that you will maintain throughout your apprenticeship working in close partnership with the 密德萨斯大学 team to develop your evidence for assessment against the Teachers’ Standards.
